Error message
For some time (weeks of even months) TMN gives an error message wihin ten seconds after enabling de add-on on W10 (64), TMN 0.10.2, and Firefox 56.
This also occurs in Chrome 61 & 62 for Track Me Not v0.10.0
Mine shows red "ERROR" box all the time (99.999%) over the TMN icon in tool bar also and did so as soon as I installed it (maybe a couple weeks ago on the install). Though today 11-18-2017 it now occasionally, temporarily & briefly shows a blue box with the site or what has been found/blocked. Running Firefox 56.0.2 (64-bit) on Win 7 Pro, TMN 0.10.2
IF this is "norma"l it would be best to ONLY show the TMN icon & ONLY show the blue popup box when something is found/blocked/protected. And IF/WHEN there is an ACTUAL/REAL problem/fault/error with the TMN addon THEN & ONLY then pop up the Red "ERROR" box and leave that Red box on UNTIL the fault/problem/error with TMN has been fixed/corrected.
Because as it is now with that Red "ERROR" box on all/most of time it looks like TMN is NOT working at all and/or NOT working properly.
Last week i downloaded firefox quantum (57.0). Since then TMN works perfectly.
Good to know. Thank you. @user-xyz is it fixed for you as well? If not I'll reopen the issue.
Best,
Vincent
I'm reopening the issue for the "Tab" mode which seems to be causing problems.
An update is available here: https://github.com/vtoubiana/TrackMeNot/releases/tag/10.0.3 Please let us know if that solves the problem.
Best regards,
Vincent
I too had the 'tab' error. It is fixed now TMN works fine now. W10, Firofox 57.0 (64bits).
I have an almost permanent "error" displayed on TMN. Whether tab enabled or not. Ubuntu 16.04, TMN 10.4, Firefox 62.0.
Similar here. If I run in "stealth" mode, it shows big red-bg/black-fg ERROR almost all the time, but generally not if I run it in a tab. Exactly the opposite of what was said upthread. This is Version 0.10.46 under Firefox 77.0.1, 64 bit, in the plain Openbox flavor of PCLOS, a gnu/linux in the Mandrake family. I've reduced the frequency in steps to 1/minute with no sign of improvement. I'll try reducing it further. What would be very helpful is a more informative log & some way to export the log to a text file. Above is a screen shot. Below is what I could get earlier, before I thought of making a screenshot, by highlighting as much as I could before the log display goes away on it's own initiative, then pasting from the primary buffer:
yandex 05:54:17 7/4/2020 yahoo 05:45:26 7/4/2020 baidu 05:36:50 7/4/2020 aol timed linus torvalds do coding more 05:33:26 7/4/2020 aol timed linus coding any more 05:32:08 7/4/2020 yahoo timed linus torvalds no any more 05:30:50 7/4/2020 bing timed torvalds do no any more 05:29:47 7/4/2020 yandex 05:26:21 7/4/2020
I'll keep checking the log, or as much of it as it will let me see. Are errors always indicated by something in the second column? Perhaps it is only specific search engines that are creating the errors.
It would be nice to know if the message means TMN has quit working [doesn't look like it] or if the message just persists indefinitely untill restarting after any error.
Kudos for a great idea.
Another screen shot. By zooming way out and stretching and positioning the window oddly, I got all that was being displayed. I checked again later, and it continues to be doing a search every 6 - 8 minutes. If it is really averaging once a minute, I guess this is a slow spell. Does the average include the burst? If so, slow spells would be expected. I'm wondering if the problem here is that the error banner is supposed to show only when the most recent search failed, but that it isn't going away when it should, even though TMN is working. That's what the log looks like.
