Version: Poedit 2.4.1 - Windows 10 (build 18363)

  1. Import following .tmx to TM.
<tmx version="1.4">
	<header creationtool="Poedit" creationtoolversion="2.4.1" datatype="PlainText" segtype="sentence" adminlang="en" srclang="en" o-tmf="PoeditTM" />
	<body>
		<tu srclang="en-US" creationdate="20200904T033015Z">
			<tuv xml:lang="en-US">
				<seg>On</seg>
			</tuv>
			<tuv xml:lang="ja-JP">
				<seg>オン</seg>
			</tuv>
		</tu>
		<tu srclang="en-US" creationdate="20200904T033015Z">
			<tuv xml:lang="en-US">
				<seg>Off</seg>
			</tuv>
			<tuv xml:lang="ja-JP">
				<seg>オフ</seg>
			</tuv>
		</tu>
	</body>
</tmx>

"On" is a stop word in English, which is usually ignored by fulltext search. Not saying it is OK, but explaining why - and that it affects only a minuscule number of (single-word) cases.

Would translating the phrase "On/Off" make a difference here? I think both words have - taken for themselves - a lot of different translations, but in the combination of both (as opposites) the meaning should be clear.

This has nothing to do with meaning. Again, "on" is a stop word in English, hence why fulltext search on it alone doesn't work, hence why Poedit's TM doesn't find a match — it doesn't see filler words like "the" or "on" during the search.
