I had to fix this, so I've forked the repository and made a fully controlled version of this component, which doesn't have a componentWillReceiveProps and doesn't keep state. It's at https://github.com/NetworkAndSoftware/react-star-rating-controlled-component

You can install it with npm install react-star-rating-controlled-component.
