Synchronous Playback...What would be involved?
How hard would it be to implement synchronous playback, i.e. be able to play the same music from multiple devices running Volumio at the same time? Sonos allows you to do this and is a major selling point for the commercial product.
I guess timing over WiFi would be one of the biggest hurdles, and also you would have to support zoning (this could come at a later date, first concept could be just two devices playing the same thing).
I am happy to help develop this! This is just to start a discussion to get started in the right direction. Thoughts and comments are welcome.
Great idea! Maybe this can be done with MagicPlay?
Good find! I guess one way to do it would be to have each device named differently, e.g. volumio, then volumio2, volumio3 e.t.c, but with only one of them providing a WebUI (e.g. volumio providing the address volumio.local). This WebUI provides the option of auto-detecting other volumios on the same network, and adding them to a "zone". Upon clicking play for a particular zone, MagicPlay can be used to start the music playing for all in that zone?
I know this is a late reply, but we are looking into this functionality with Pulseaudio. Let me know if you might be able to help!
