Switching to Software Volume control crashes Odroid C1 with hifi shield

See title. Needs unplug/ re-plug power to reset. Settings have not been saved. This has been an issue for a long time, reported a few times, but nothing was done yet. I need help with debugging (not much of a a node programmer).
