WIP: bump major version,

@mbehr1 suggested to bump the major version after the changes in #453 (because we broke backwards compatibility by changing available options)

strangely, that would take us to 1.0.0 :astonished:

might want to hold this back until #450 is also in.

i optimistically set the date to next monday :wink:
