Support for multiple players [EPIC]

Issue collection for features related to using multiple players and allowing the user to choose one or beta-test new features

I would opt for an architecture, where we are able to support multiple players. E.g. one Player with multi-video-stream support, a combinded video player with pdf viewer, one with subtitles or transcript, one without any javascript, one optimised for audio only files with chapters (podcasts) etc.

We might even give the users a choice which one to use, via configuration page writing a JSON to local storage in the user's browser.

Just for the record: #290 upgraded the media element player to the current release.
