SLES15 SP6 guest cannot properly reboot after Guest OS Customization
Describe the bug
Hello,
we use a minimal template of SLES15 SP6. As you know, a minimal installation is security best practice. That is the reason it does not contain the deprecated telinit command anymore.
So we ran into the following issue. Suse can explain it better then myself:

Since I did not find any community case, I wanted to open it to show interest in a fix that does not require the installation of the deprecated sysvinit tools from systemd-sysvcompat package.

Hi @jpbuecken ,
Yes, this is a known issue. We do have an internal bug to fix this by using an alternative way to reboot SLES when telinit command is unavailable, please stick to the resolution in the SUSE KB for now, thanks.
Hello SLES15 SP7 and SLES16 are out. Is there any update for both of them?
Hi @jpbuecken
The fix has been released in open-vm-tools v13.0.5, please check details here. For SLES 16, we've also worked with SUSE to patch the same fix in SLES 16.0 bundled open-vm-tools v13.0.0. For SLES 15 SP7, as its open-vm-tools version is still v12.5.0, please bear with SUSE KB for minimal installation.
Actually SUSE has rebased open-vm-tools 13.0.0 (with the fix) on all currently supported SLES / SUSE Linux releases.
It is first available on SLES-16, but should become available on other supported releases. Watch for updated open-vm-tools packages for your SLES-15 SP7 Linux.
Hello, thank you for the update. From my point of view, this community case is resolved. Thank you!
Checked myself: Already released for SLES15 SP6 and SP7 and works for me. Closing this issue myself
