When will perfect support for Wayland be available?
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, the support for Wayland in open-vm-tools is not yet sufficient. For example, there are issues with copying and pasting between the guest and host machines. However, Wayland is the future and offers smoother and more responsive performance

I'd also appreciate an update, or at least a redirection to a place to stay updated on this issue. Copy / paste has been completely unusable in Linux host under Wayland for multiple major Vmware Workstation versions. Renders the software impractical to use.
For reference Fedora KDE plans to drop the X11/xorg support in the future (likely 2024): https://pagure.io/fedora-kde/SIG/issue/347
If that goes well, other distros may follow that lead within a year or two. RHEL 9 has deprecated X11 with removal planned for a future RHEL release. Thus the lack of support may become more of an issue and ramp up the support tickets?
For the copy/paste support, perhaps libei (Wayland specific solution to support similar software functionality in Synergy/Barrier) might be an option to integrate with I think? The developer is the same as one behind libinput, VMWare could probably consult with them?
Would really love to see better support and integration of vmware into a wayland linux host.
With gnome dropping X11 support from gdm this is critical
This should be a bit of a priority thing by now. X11 support is being dropped and I noticed things like the clipboard still not working in Wayland today.
+1
I just encountered this issue. I configured my Gentoo guest to have KDE plasma with Wayland. Display works, but nothing more. Hopefully, there is a plan for this.
Possibly related to #587 as well.
