Password protection

I am looking on how to protect some files with password? Is this possible, or if not, can you please give me some guidelines on how and where to implement this? So for example, I would like to leave /home/root folder visible to everybody and /home/restricted visible only to the ones who fill in the correct password.

The unlock/lock feature was implemented in the v1.5.1.
