Issues When Using Timeline on Big Scale

Open Ziselin opened this issue 6 years ago • 2 comments

Thank you for your work on the timeline. It is great, to a certain point/scale. Unfortunately some things still don't work for my project. I am going to build a very big timeline for educational purposes that reaches back and forth billions of years, still shall be quite detailed for the past 5000 years:

  • the possible length of the timeline seems to have a limit
  • one can only scroll back 10.000 years and not see "the big picture"
  • an item that is "only" a couple of thousand years long is not shown correctly

Related problems for me are those:

  • a year (e.g. 500) is a 4-digit number (0500)
  • the timeline shows a year 0 (0000). But: there is no year 0. It starts with year 1AD and the year befor was 1BC.

It'd be helpful if you could tell me what of my problems I can solve on my own and what are natural limits of the software, and maybe why.

Thank You!

This will require a lot of work because it requires support of very large numbers (using bigInt could probably solve this.) supporting very large time ranges can be a very nice addition to the project. I hope someone can pick this issue up in the future.

If we could start fixing the year 0 thing then it will be great
