Vircadia does not deal well with "unstable" connections

Open JulianGro opened this issue 4 years ago • 6 comments

There is some problems when running Vircadia on an "unstable" connection.

  • Avatars do not seem to load (it doesn't try to load the file, so the mixer is just not telling the Interface what file to download)
  • People are missing from the People app
  • People are missing their names vircadia-snap-by-motofckr9k-on-2020-10-20_19-10-35

Curiously audio still works perfect. I can talk to unknown floating wireframe balls just fine.

Maybe the avatar mixer just sends information about people once and there is no check if it ever arrived?

I should always be able to reproduce this issue as this is me just connecting over the community network.

This is a serious persistent issue for me, it was even with HiFi. I use 4G LTE for my connection because Rural Broadband in the US is terrible. My connection speeds are great 100+Mbps but somewhat unstable usually around <1% Packet Loss. This causes me to constantly get disconnected and reconnected to Domains(And even the serverless tutorial?), despite having all their assets downloaded fairly quickly. Avatars tend to load fine though. This unfortunately is a reason i had to stop using HiFi before. I thought maybe with my upgraded LTE setup that it would be less of a problem. Since this is happening i have very limited means of communicating with other users to see if i can test in more isolated domains.

Still a huge problem I can't stay logged in for more than 30 minutes at the moment.
