"Developer/Render/Throttle FPS if not in focus" toggle has no effect.

If I move my mouse to another window it will throttle Vircadia regardless if this is checked or not. Unchecking this would be useful when filming or doing other tasks that may require a shift to another window while maintaining framerate and presentation. Machinima makers for example, would find this feature useful.

On my end it actually never throttles, even if the option is enabled. This is on Linux btw. You can see the status in the / statistics.

Looked a bit into it, this was changed recently. Unfocused throttling is now only done in custom and low power modes, the others don't have an unfocused throttle.

It works when the refresh rate is Economical or Interactive, but not Real Time.
