First of all, thanks for you work on this project, really love it.

I'm curious why you decided to make this a github cli extenstion instead of just a regular cli application?

I work on gh as a job and I was trying to brainstorm creative ideas to launch extensions support with. I had the initial idea of the screensavers being based on a repository somehow -- like issues scrolling by or something. but I got more invested in and excited by more abstract things.

I'm open to releasing this as a standalone tool, though, if there is interest in that.
