I don't think Darktable supports CR3 yet, see https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/2170 and https://github.com/darktable-org/rawspeed/pull/271 But it looks like it's comming soon though.

Thats an interesting idea and could be a fun project. Also a lot of the code from the iOS app could be reused.

Can you provide a sample image, that will make it easier to test.

Make sure you have `libheif` version 1.12 installed
