As with any web service, the end user is beholden to the terms of use and availability thereof.
Users are empowered to change the default Mapping provider to suit their needs, indeed you can even run your own service using Open Data and Code.
Unless someone is willing to provide a less 'unreliable' (how does one measure this?) service, the defaults are unlikely to change.
Is there a way to force Viking to retry OpenTopoMap seeks that failed ?
@linuxguy123 No I'm afraid not. Otherwise it would probably need some kind of retry counter for certain failure modes; to prevent generating too many requests and possibly how distinguish between timeouts vs direct refusals. Manually updating e.g. via F5
on a particular view of interest is probably the easiest work-around.
