Is there a way to specify pre-load buffer size/amount?

I have an HLS stream and right now it pre-loads around 5 seconds.

The use case is when a user is viewing at a speed greater than 1x it's constantly pausing to buffer.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
