Possible idea for better RnD
[featurerequest][discussion]
as per #33011 all items have a var called "givestech" or some name like that, set to 1 on most items but some will have it set to 0. will only give the tech levels in a destructive analyzer if set to 1 the ones that have it set to 0 must have an action performed with them to be researched and set to 1, eg toolboxes need to robust someone, mining drills need to mine, nanopaste needs to heal a borg, power cells need to be fully charged from empty, mech syringe guns and other guns must be fired at someone etc. maybe it'd be ideal to make the thing that does it be random from a list to make it feel more research-y, with feedback from the DA saying it's researchable now. and also maybe a tool or scanner that pings if it detects the correct use how does this sound?
Sounds cool but shit like using nanopaste on a cyborg isn't possible if nobody wants to be a cyborg

what else would it be used on then? i think robotic limbs would work too
BRING BACK TETRIS
This sounds absolutely terrible because of all the systems you would have to code in order to detect that it's been used for a specific purpose. It also doesn't make research more interesting as much as tedious. Ask yourself if you would want to have to do this each round and if you even could each round. Every time I see research revamp suggestions they always come off as short-sighted and would be cool for like a round or two and then people would be really sick of doing them.
Maybe what RnD could use is like an open "lab space" without any particular purpose. So it'd be a hint and encouragement to the scientist to set some experiment up in there or something. You could even have the scientists spawn in there instead of the RnD console room itself.
Like most cockroach breeding or zombie or cyberhorror experiments and stuff take place in the bar or the vacant rooms. Why not also have some room for stuff like that in science? On Box this is also the perfect place for something to go horribly wrong, as it's right in front of escape.
Making things tedious doesn't make them interesting
Clearly the solution is to bring back T.E.T.R.I.S. as a secondary research mode. You can do the item list or you can play tetris. If you're good at tetris it would be faster than regular research. If you're not, you can still do your 10m checklist.
ok but tetris?
See #18555.
why was this reopened?
