lesser syndicate bundle(s)

[content]

Good morning Western European Daylight Time Zone and good evening Hawaii Standard Time. I would like to preface this by saying that I am a staunch cargonian patriot. I am making the emag more powerful. This PR is based off of my feelings about my favorite cargo crate from when I was just a little baby Ssethtider. But I feel like younger me's opinions on emagged cargo are still fit to be slammed on the conference table in the middle of the room.

What this does

I added some crates. When I was making them I wanted to split them into three tiers like in call of duty, but I had an apotheosis this morning and decided to completely trash the past two days thinking to just make the 2nd and 3rd tier into another syndicate bundle.

Tier 1, cock

  • Disguise kit (5 of them, engineer, scientist, atmos tech, doctor, janitor)

In my experience they're profoundly strong when done right but if you're too lazy to go to the arrivals shuttle and get a grey jumpsuit I mixed up some prefabs

Screenshot (1803)

  • Theatrical Space Suits (seperate, black and colored)

Ok I'll give it to you this is my ONE unconcealed shitpost of the PR

Screenshot (1799)

Tier 2, ball

This tier used to be a bit larger but I either moved it up to tier 3 or deleted it if it didn't fit

  • Holdout accessories (a couple attachable accessories that no security officer will ever search plus a random handgun based on the selection from the Revsquad catalogue to put in said accessories)

Holdout is a term for concealing and hiding cards on one's body. Additionally, a holdout gun is another name used to refer to a pocket-pistol or derringer: handguns of very small size and caliber, making them easy to conceal, and meant to be used in emergencies or situations where conventional weapons are inaccessible.

I still feel like giving a spare magazine and the possibility of the silencer is a bit too wacky for public consumption, I really should curtail the handgun pool for this since half of this is 60 damage hand cannons and one handed burp guns

Tier 3, torture

I said this before but I crammed most of my ideas in here

  • Lesser syndicate bundle (all my other ideas crammed into one since I didn't want to completely bloat the emag catalogue, I really should have thought this through better)

This is exactly what the name is so I'll just get into the bundles.

  • ~Poisons~ Discount Dan's banned food additives, because spiking the drinks at the bar and seasoning the food at the kitchen is just classic space fun that anybody can enjoy
  • Exploder, the grenade bandolier from the Revsquad catalogue
  • Rocket launcher
  • Luber, the lube and antilube spray bottles from the Revsquad catalogue, because nothing empowers a worker more than cleaning the floors
  • Martyrdom, the funny boomer vest image
  • Machineglock, the peak evolution of the NT Glock
  • Fakenews, literally just false report intercoms that I hope you don't immedietely emag
  • Neighborhood Sniper, yes this is a meme about me
  • Radcell, one time I put two 9 volt batteries together end to end on the kitchen table, positive terminal on one to the negative terminal on the other, and then I left the kitchen to watch TV and I heard a really loud buzzing noise and then a pop and then 15 minutes later my dad came downstairs and got angry because I put the batteries end to end since they short circuited and there were black battery guts spilling out of the bottom of the batteries
  • Wiretap, perhaps the first serious bundle so far, just the syndicate and binary encryption keys
  • Forbiddengum, some sticks of gum to give to your boss
  • Pocketsat, because I don't think people use this enough
  • Adrenals, because I don't think this has actually been used on /vg/ at all yet, so better late than never

Why it's good

Science has maxcaps and emag borgs, Engineering can end the round five minutes in just by hitting one button (PA) and waiting, Medbay has viruses and so on and so forth. Every job gets dumb bullshit by the lategame and for cargo I'm giving them more :3

If we want to get into semantics then we have the comments for that, also I hope my brain activates again like it did this time so I can contribute more to this catalogue

Changelog

:cl:

  • rscadd: Added a whole bunch to the emag cargo catalogue

today I will post a skubby pull request on the github, then turn off my phone and go to sleep so I have a scintillating socratic discussion to return to at breakfast in 9 hours

WindowsErrors avatar Jul 27 '22 07:07 WindowsErrors

The last tier apparently has no restrictions on it- no emagging is needed to order it.

I do like the idea of truly premium cargo orderables, especially if it's locked behind specifically emag and can't be ordered by a herp with a soldering iron. The syndie can finally gain something from spendimg the entire station budget that isn't supermatter crystals!

jwhitak avatar Jul 27 '22 07:07 jwhitak

I like the martyrdom one for a last HONK after the HoS smashes your skull as punishment for lubing the entire station twice.

Eneocho avatar Jul 27 '22 07:07 Eneocho

Consider changing the name of the lesser syndie bundle to be less conspicuous. "Unmarked goodies" or something.

Eneocho avatar Jul 27 '22 08:07 Eneocho

there's the "does not tip" item that should probably be reworked for this

adacovsk avatar Jul 27 '22 12:07 adacovsk

what the fuck is going on in this pure stream-of-consciousness PR this is the least atomic PR I have ever seen

west3436 avatar Jul 27 '22 14:07 west3436

only thing i ain't sure about is the adrenals

Now it does

Consider changing the name of the lesser syndie bundle to be less conspicuous

Ok give me a second

there's the "does not tip" item that should probably be reworked for this

I'm cave manning over this open ended statement, can you please just tell me what you want

what the fuck is going on in this pure stream-of-consciousness PR

So basically, back in the good old days when I was new, there was an emag cargo catalogue item called NULL_ENTRY, you emagged the cargo console and you could pay $20,000 for 30 telecrystals worth of random traitor gear

But then all the sseth tiders figured out how to do money exploits (cargo players on the hub servers have different priorities, money there is so biden-flated they'd rather screenshot their $3.874204886125795e+7 for reddit upvotes instead of using it to run a gimmick to benefit the station like on here)

Now that there were like 30 null crates being ordered every few rounds due to money exploiters, the admins didn't like the null crate anymore, so rather than listen to all of us cargo players give our suggestions on how the tators could get gamer gear outside of the 20 bad boy bucks they start with, the c*ders decided to just completely remove it instead

The removal didn't come to the server I played on until a year or so after that but you can read the original removal to see how people felt about it, at least for their TG community

only thing i ain't sure about is the adrenals

yea I quibbled with a lot of things, I should probably change some of them now that I'm thinking about it

WindowsErrors avatar Jul 27 '22 22:07 WindowsErrors

Ok, I've decided to start culling some of the things that I think are a bit too wacky for public consumption

My only quibble with the disguise kit is the galoshes with the janitor disguise but people will laugh at the janitor who doesn't have the boots, if you have a problem with it you can just say it

In the holdout kit it turns out the NT22 is a literal joke gun that does 10 damage per hit and also I think it was breaking the linter or something so it's going out, I also had some qualms about the loot pool, so bring up something else with your words like a normal person

The bundle is still some mixed feelings, it fulfills the same purpose as the real bundle where they're specialized and not all of them are useful without a bit of creativity, although it suffers from one of the chief complaints about the original null crate which was that the loot pool is almost exclusively designed for killing people, but I still think it's a good idea

WindowsErrors avatar Jul 27 '22 22:07 WindowsErrors

Honestly, you probably could safely bring back the NULL_CRATE directly. Getting antags a reason to try and get 20k is interesting. The vault alone won't do it, it takes fancier methods now.

jwhitak avatar Jul 28 '22 07:07 jwhitak

you probably could safely bring back the NULL_CRATE directly

I was going to write an entire text wall but I felt like I was reiterating the arguments of people in this situation before me, so instead I'll just say that I think it's a bit too wacky to just jump from current cargo to something of that magnitude

Eneocho avatar Jul 28 '22 23:07 Eneocho

this pr is totally not just my attempt to redeem the dumbshit scammers bundle

WindowsErrors avatar Jul 29 '22 01:07 WindowsErrors

This PR is haphazard and unatomic. I would suggest adding a traitor item which costs 15-20TC and can be attached to the cargo console. Then add crate gacha which requires that item and costs somewhere in the ballpark of 10-50k credits per roll.

ancientpower avatar Aug 02 '22 18:08 ancientpower

by unatomic do you just mean I'm updating the supplypacks file here instead of updating it in 4 different requests to spread the unatomicity into quarters because if you want me to do that then I can do that

WindowsErrors avatar Aug 02 '22 21:08 WindowsErrors

This isn't really unatomic, so much that it's a general content PR that involves new syndicate stuff for cargo. I'm not a fan of some little bits of the content, so it gets an entire thumbs down for me, but that's just how big PRs work. He could split this PR into a whole bunch of different, conflicting PRs, but that's kinda meh. Imagine if Deity did that with his virology update. One PR for each new symptom...

jwhitak avatar Aug 06 '22 12:08 jwhitak

Remove machine glock Replace with printable glock switches and drum mags for that immersive ghetto feeling. I'll only be okay with adrenals if you rename it to adronochrome.

Atomicity has two things you need to weigh.

  • Could this PR be broken down any smaller reasonably?
  • Will people want part of this without the other parts?

For example, Deity WAS chastised for occasionally slipping in a bunch of stuff that reasonably could have been broken into smaller PRs. It's understandable that if you are going to completely change how runes work, you probably need to do all of them at once to go with the new system. However, he didn't really need to slip in the "broken shards can now be used as sharp cutting objects for surgery" into a PR for runes because that could have easily flown as its own PR. This is just off the top of my head - there are better examples. The flipside of this is a recent PR made by boys2man where he fixed a missing period in a description on another file. Totally unatomic, but nobody really cares.

The question is: could this PR be less of a hodgepodge? Would that make people happier and votes more clear?

Kurfursten avatar Aug 18 '22 04:08 Kurfursten

could this PR be less of a hodgepodge? Would that make people happier and votes more clear?

Yes, but if I cut everything out that people took issue with, this PR would be half the size I think the only people who actually suggested an addition was dilt who suggested the thing that I was first thinking of when I made this and that one guy who wanted me to add an even larger glock magazine, it's kind of hard to think of something for cargo, in game and out of game, that isn't either just the "Security" tab or something that feels like a cheap rehash of something that another role already does better in every way

WindowsErrors avatar Aug 22 '22 22:08 WindowsErrors

I'd probably upvote if I understood what this does, but it's confusing

adacovsk avatar Aug 23 '22 11:08 adacovsk

Honestly just remove everything but the lesser syndie bundles, no ones gonna buy the disguises and cargo doesnt need more gun crates. But the random box o' goodies idea is a novel one. There should be more rewards for emagging the supply console other than extremely cheap and powerful guns.

WindowsErrors avatar Oct 03 '22 04:10 WindowsErrors

What is it with whataboutism today? I don't think your PR is at all like a mapping PR. It's more like an emag-creep PR, so a more fair comparison would be #33156 -- you're giving people with emags huge amounts of additional traitor gear. Why hasn't the anti-emag creep vote come down on you harder? You have in fact been the benefactor of a huge amount of meme votes. The idea that you think you've been treated unfairly is comical.

The criticisms of this PR are more than valid and if you really wanted it to be taken seriously you would address concerns or break it into more atomic parts - or both.
