encfs max block size limit

Is there a reason encfs is limited to using a max block size of 4096? There are applications which can benefit from 8k, and even 128k block sizes? I am wondering what is the motivation for a max block size of 4096 bytes and if a higher number can be supported?

No particular reason, but I'm not really sure if going above 4096 makes sense. How could applications benefit?
