VeraCrypt background task on MacOS 12.0.1 not working - no auto mounting

Expected behavior

Automatically mount favorite containers when connected to the system

Observed behavior

upon connection of a USB-stick with an container that has been setup as a favorite nothing happens. On my windows machine this works flawlessly.

Manual mounting works as expected

Background tasks are enabled but I also don't see any VeraCrypt icon in the menu bar.

Steps to reproduce

1. install VC and macFuse
2. setup container as favorite
3. enable background tasks and enable auto mount of favorite containers
4. connect an USB-Stick with the container
