Veracrypt requires adding the user to the wheel group

Open ghost opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

Hello, Under some Linux distro Veracrypt requires adding the user to the wheel group. This manipulation switched polkit password from the root one to the user's one. Which fix do you propose so that the user can use Veracrypt without requiring the password root? Thank you in advance Cordially, Sébastien Bore. https://fsociety-drive.mycozy.cloud/public?sharecode=BY9SwgtaJFw0

under which linux distro?

switched polkit password from the root

and this caused a conflict or issue on your system. if so, what specifically?

without requiring the password root

veracrypt also requires administrator password on Windows(which is closed source). i wish it didn't for encrypting files on pen drives.

peace out ghostArch

@sebastienbore, see #496 for an explanation of why wheel group membership (or root privileges, to that matter) is necessary, this essentially stems from the way raw disk access works on Linux.

Something is wrong here :( In the post provided here @ElMostafaIdrassi wrote that VC works similar to LUKS and therefore requires root privileges. But, for example, ZuluCrypt (which is the GUI for LUKS) doesn't require root privileges and works fine without it.
