Has anyone successfully performed an in-place upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 on a VeraCrypt full-disk encrypted system?
Hi everyone, I’m currently running Windows 11 (e.g., 23H2 or 24H2) with VeraCrypt full-disk encryption (FDE) enabled, and I’m planning to upgrade to the upcoming Windows 11 25H2 feature update via Windows Update (in-place upgrade, not a clean install). I understand that VeraCrypt operates at the pre-boot level and that Windows typically sees the volume as decrypted during normal operation. However, I’m concerned that a major OS upgrade like 25H2 might overwrite or interfere with the VeraCrypt bootloader or EFI configuration—especially since some older guides (mostly about Win10 → Win11) recommend decrypting first. Before proceeding, I’d like to ask: Has anyone already performed this specific upgrade (to 25H2) on a VeraCrypt FDE system? Did the upgrade complete successfully without requiring decryption beforehand? Were there any boot issues afterward, and if so, how were they resolved (e.g., using the VeraCrypt Rescue Disk)? I’ve already created and tested my VeraCrypt Rescue Disk and backed up my data, but I’d feel much more confident hearing from others who’ve gone through this with 25H2 specifically. Thanks in advance for your experience and advice!
I just did the update from 24H2 to 25H2 on Veracrypt full encrypted disk and had no problems whatsoever. HP laptop w/ AMD Ryzen 7 (7Y6V7EA).
Thank you @r-rade , I just did the same update on my thinkpad T14p and everything was smooth.
