Veracrypt v1.26.24 won't fully start on WIndows 11

Open ICTKA opened this issue 5 months ago • 5 comments

I just reinstalled the following PC: HP 80 G1 MT

  • Windows 11 (23H2 or 24H2) not officially supported on this machine
  • Intel Pentium G3250 (Intel 4th gen./LGA 1150)
  • 8 GB DD3
  • Intel HD Graphics

Because this was a clean install, I downloaded the newest version of all my softwares/tools (Veracrypt included). So I installed Veracrypt v1.26.24. When I tried to start Veracrypt, it started (an icon was present at the taskbar), however it didn't not open the GUI. After clicking on the icon, I some times get the GUI rectangle complete black as like opening a CMD window. However this rectangle did not show on Windows 10 23H2. First not knowing what to do I created a batch file and succeeded to open my VC container with command line commands. However this is a hit and mis. E.g. some times the mounting succeeds but unmounting won't using the command line. I have tried VeraCrypt Setup 1.26.24 on several Windows 11/10 PCs (Intel gen up to 4th Gen.) and they all behaved like this.

Veracrypt 1.26.20 is working though!!!

Expected behavior

When starting Veracrypt I expect the GUI tp open, so I can mont my VC containers.

Observed behavior

Instead Veracrypt start (icon visible) but the GUI is not present. When maximizing the Veracrypt Icon, I get a black square as I get a blacked GUI.

Steps to reproduce

  1. On this perticular computer, first install Windows 11 23H2 or 24H2
  2. Install VeraCrypt Setup 1.26.24 (folder; C:\Windows\VeraCrypt)
  3. Double click Veracrypt icon to start GUI

I have a similar issue with 1.26.24. Installed using the Windows MSI installer and only being used for containerized encryption, not whole disk. All PCs are Windows 11 24H2. Reverting to 1.26.20 fixes the issue for the PCs with the problem. The funny thing is that it is my newer, prebuilt PCs purchased in 2024 that have issues with version 1.26.24. Both are Intel-based processors, with one having Intel graphics and the other Nvidia graphics. My older PC, which I custom-built in 2023 with an AMD processor and AMD graphics, does not have any issues running 1.26.24. (Not starting an Intel/AMD flame war, just what I've observed.)

hi, manage to solved this, i was experiencing this issue and tried @bumgarb solution.

i just check the difference between the latest version and 1.26.20

Introduce command-line options DISABLEMEMORYPROTECTION and DISABLESCREENPROTECTION for MSI installer configuration.

just check both of these while installing 1.26.24 and it just works for me.

but heres what i did,

  1. installed 1.26.24 (without checking) - not working
  2. uninstalled 1.26.24 and installed 1.26.20 - working
  3. uninstalled 1.26.20 and installed 1.26.24 (both checked) - working

I have confirmed @optconepiece059 finding. Checking the boxes for "Disable memory protection for Accessibility tools compatibility" and "Disable protection against screenshots and screen recording" caused version 1.26.24 to work correctly. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue. It just sticks in my taskbar but shows no UI. I can also confirm, downgrading to 1.26.20 works for me.
