Experiencing extremely slow transfer speeds with Veracrypt file container over usb 3.0.

Hi,

I posted this in the forums as well, but have not received any replies over the last few days. I am experiencing extremely slow transfer speeds when attempting to copy or move files to an encrypted file container on an external storage device.

Tech details:

Machine * Apple M1 Max * Ventura 13.1 * Memory: 32GB

External storage device * QNAP TR004 * Firmware 1.2.0 * Configuration: RAID5 * Drives: WD Red Pro 12TB, 7200 RPM, 256 MB Cache. * Connection: usb 3.1 (with an obvious bottleneck coming from the drives not being SSD)

I have never needed to create an encrypted file container over 500MB, but I am currently creating 5-6 TB containers and am experiencing speeds of 16.46 MB/sec while copying over files via Chronosync (v. 10.3.2, essentially Rsync, and the files are configured to maximize transfer speeds). Originally, I had attempted to use Finder, but the speeds were even lower. What's interesting to note is, the speeds were averaging around 40-50 MB/sec at the beginning of the transfer, but have since slowed down to a crawl.

I tried some troubleshooting via directing the drive enclosure directly to my machine versus my hub, but the speeds stayed the same.

Does this sound normal given the specs I shared?

I'd appreciate any input any one could share.

Thank you
