What happened?
- I could try selected software out to some degree by the means of the image “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221016-Media.iso” (for example).
- Yesterday I noticed that the next version of the corresponding images were published.
- Today I copied them to my Ventoy partition.
- I chose the entry “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221017-Media.iso” from the Ventoy boot menu.
- The start attempt looked promising at first glance (as it worked for several images before).
- The boot logo was displayed with a small turning animation for a moment.
- But I got surprised this morning that the boot process was stopped for unknown reasons at this place. (The graphical display was not updated further until I rebooted the test computer.)
By the way: :eyes: The software from the image “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-XFCE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221017-Media.iso” worked according to the provided system configuration during another short test with the same computer.
:eyes: The image “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221020-Media.iso” worked mostly as expected while the boot process was stopped again during an animation display by the images “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221020-Media.iso” and “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-XFCE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221020-Media.iso”.
:eyes: I can not directly reproduce the stopped boot process for an image like “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221020-Media.iso” within a virtual machine based on QEMU/KVM so far. The animation (splash screen) can be switched to the log message display. Information like the following will trigger further development considerations, won't it?
…
[ OK ] Reached target Basic System
[…] dracut-initqueue[…]: …
[…] [ T1] reboot: System halted
…
 Some error messages point open issues out for the collaboration of the software “Ventoy 1.0.80” with the images “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-{GNOME,KDE,XFCE}-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20221023-Media.iso”.
 Is it interesting that the software “Ventoy 1.0.80” can work with the images “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-{GNOME-Live,KDE-Live,XFCE-Live,Rescue-CD}-x86_64-Snapshot20221024-Media.iso” again on my test computer?
:thought_balloon: Would you like to discuss observed “effects” for any more software snapshots?
