What happened?
- Download debian-11.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
Prepare a defunct Debian hard disk installation:
- Install debian-11.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso on a USB flash drive
- Export the USB flash drive partitions to disk image files (sdb1-debian-efi_boot.img, sdb2-debian-root.img)
- On a empty SSD test drive: Create partitions with the same byte size as sdb1-debian-efi_boot.img, sdb2-debian-root.img, then import these files to the partitions.
- Boot the SSD drive and try to install Debian, long before the partiton section you will receive a message saying: "No device for installation media was detected."
- Now you have a defunct Debian install drive.
Prepare Ventoy
- Install Ventoy on a USB flash drive.
- copy debian-11.4.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso to the ventoy USB flash drive
- Boot the Ventoy USB flash drive
- Select Debian from the list in the Ventoy flash screeen
- You will get this error message:
error: file/casper/vmlinuz' not found. alloc magic is broken at 0x4cd1b380: 4cca5ca0 Aborted. Press any key to exit.`
Why is Ventoy dependent that connected drives can boot properly?
After I have formatted the SSD drive, then I can boot from the Ventoy USB drive.
Do you get the same issue if not using any \ventoy\ventoy.json file? Do you see any more messages if you use Text mode for Ventoy menu?
In the same environment, if you copy different iso files (e.g. CentOS/ArchLinux ...) to Ventoy USB flash drive and boot them, can they boot OK?
Sorry, I don't have access to the setup anymore.
