What happened?
Cannot for the life of me get Ventoy to boot on any of my work HP Business systems (Elitebook/Elitedesk/etcetc) Secureboot/Nosecureboot MBR/GPT, a slurry mix of BIOS settings changes, etc.
NADA, so if someone here has the proper mix I probably missed in my frustration, I would appreciate it.
I was attempting to cover as much ground as possible and get it as close to universally compatible as I can, but I am at a standstill at this point, no desire to put more work into it until I can unvoodoo this voodoo.
It should be noted that I posted this after reading: https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/issues/98
Which was never really solved and not really applied to just booting AT ALL vs a specific boot type.
- Make sure to set your BIOS to UEFI only mode and disable the secure boot option
- Install Ventoy in GPT partition style.
If still can not boot into Ventoy's menu. Please make a video about it for check.
1: yes, did this as mentioned in first post 2: yes, did this as mentioned in first post
Nothing to record for the most part, the laptop (easiest example) simply says nothing to boot from and shuts down. If it try's to even boot from the USB when it shows up (cant recall the combo tested), it quickly skips passed a load error page and dumps you in grub, I don't have a camera that can record fast enough to capture the message as it passes by so fast.
Try another USB stick with small capacity (e.g. 32GB)
If you burn some ISO file (e.g. Ubuntu iso) to this same USB stick with Rufus, can it boot OK in UEFI mode?
I have tried different capacity's down to 16GB, and last I recall Rufus did work. Will retest Rufus as its been a while.
Ventoy's GPT disk layout is as follows: https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_disk_layout_gpt.html
The BIOS in your machine deny USB device that has more than one partitions? The BIOS in your machine deny USB device that the EFI partition is not the 1st partition (but the 2nd partition) ?
I don't known. You can try to create only one EFI partition and put all the files in VTOYEFI partition to it and test to see whether it can boot into Ventoy's menu.
Ok, life/work keep throwing wrench's!
RUFUS both for Standard windows installer as well as Windows 2 Go work just fine, I will try and check other things, it may just be Ventoy is not compatible with HP systems (business laptops/desktops/servers at least) in anyway
