Null/Missing data points are included in selection even when they are not plotted

When making a selection in a scatter plot, if selection includes 0 on either the y or x axis, it will include missing/null values. An example can be seen in the scatterplot table, where I have made a selection that overlaps with 0 on the Horsepower axis which so that the null values unexpectedly appears in the table although we can see in the chart that there are no data points selected:

The docs suggest that the default value for invalid data should "filter" it from appearing, which I interpreted as it would be "excluded", but I am not sure the word "filter" here is used to contrast with "skip"; both means to "exclude data for me:
