Base Upgrade led to tier downgrade

Is upgrading from tier-8 (that's top tier for evo 79% worms/spawners) to tier-6 is related to 3 variations setting? image

If it is changing faction type then yes, otherwise no

  1. Downgrades still occur sometimes with new mod version. In my case it is less than 5%, but taking into consideration a huge number of old low-tier structures it can happen much more often for fresh game (where enemies have modern tier buildings)
  2. Now faction is always changed during upgrade/downgrade (if I understood correctly, it's not related to adaptation mutations). Therefore it is a correct behavior according to your comment.

Haven't made these fixes yet. The newest version cleared everything due to some breaking internal changes, so 2) is expected for a while but eventually should be upgrading within a faction.

I started a new game with Rampant 1.2.0, updated to 2.0.0. New enemies, all factions, max tier=10, max variations = 3. I see, that upgrades occur regularly (every minute or even several times a minute) while I'm on 10% evolution. image Can it be that biters will waste all their activity points on this fruitless actions? Does it make sense for base to upgrade one of its entities to the same or lower tier and waste points on it? Or they get it much cheaper than for siege/attack/migration activities? I see they do run some attacks from outside my pollution area. Can't say if they try to expand/siege a lot. This time I set only 150%/150% for bases frequency and size as with 400% frequency they expanded like mad (end of this thread https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Rampant/discussion/605348bb943f58bba9576e35)

base upgrades or mutations are a separate point pool then attack waves, migration, or siege

That's great!
