I'd be willing to take a look at this and submit a PR. Would this functionality be preferred optionally per page in the front matter or as a global config option in the .gitdocs.json?

Hey @blakewilson, we're not actively using this at the moment (plan to revisit soon), but if you'd like to submit a PR we'd be happy to review—generally we opt for global settings with a front matter override if need be.
