[Feature] Useful categories in module browser

Open HorstBaerbel opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. It is problematic to find modules that generate a picture to start with. I also personally don't care where the modules comes from, if it is an ISF or 2D or Three.js module, so I would drop those categories.

Describe the solution you'd like Split modules into "Generate" (does not use input buffer) and "Transform" (does transform input buffer) (possibly more?) categories (open for name suggestions).

Describe alternatives you've considered Add a category system in the module browser that lets users create "crates" for modules like in a DJ software, e.g. "Glitchy", "Big Pixels" or "Basic" and drag-and-drop effects between them.

This would be far more useful, agreed.

I've had many conversations with @TimPietrusky about this. We think it would be best to overhaul modV's concept of Projects and Presets to align with this.

It would be desirable to have your own crates, which may be stored at the application level, like the layout is, or the project level (which actually nothing is right now, but which is why we want to explore it when overhauling Projects).

This may take some time to materialise, but be reassured it will happen. We rarely push a feature we're not happy with. And if it means looking at how we're currently doing things and modifying/updating it we will spend more time on it.
