[Feature request]Automatic acquisition of specified folder thumbnails
@vauvenal5 Thanks for this app !!
I want a function to automatically get thumbnails of selected folders
Hi! Sry but what are selected folder thumbnails
? I am not aware of this Nextcloud functionality, can you point to it? Or do you mean something like described in #20?
Thanks for the reply!
I'm sorry I'm not communicating well.
Normally, you have to scroll down and load the image to start getting thumbnails. Since this doesn't allow for smooth image browsing, we need a feature that automatically fetches thumbnails for all images in a folder specified in advance!
(I used machine translation, so I may not have conveyed the message well.
Ah now I understand. Just one thing first, which view type are you using?
I'm using the grid view.
So, yes in general I will add this feature. But and this is a big but, it is not as simple as it might seem on first glance.
See, the issue with preview generation is that unless you have the Preview Generator setup and configured correctly, your previews are generated ad hoc when you request them. And this is the part which is actually time consuming when loading a preview, not the network traffic.
And this leads us to the problem with this feature request, when someone without Preview Generator requests a lot of previews it will take some time until they are processed and available and as user you, naturally, will switch meanwhile to another app or close the display. At this point Android might or might not stop any still running processes from non active apps. So to make this work it is necessary to implement this feature as a true background task, which is in general not yet supported by this app.
My advice to you, in the meantime, if it takes a noticeable time for your previous to arrive while scrolling then it is very likely that your Nextcloud instance is running without preview generator. In this case, unless there are any strong security reasons, I advice you to setup the preview generator.
So running an app in the background causes so many problems...
I used the Preview Generator to create a preview first, and it was faster than before.
