Before reporting your issue

  • [x] I have confirmed that this issue does not happen when ExplorerPatcher is not installed
  • [x] I do not have "register as shell extension" enabled
  • [x] I have tried my best to check existing issues

Repro ExplorerPatcher versions

Explorer Patcher version 26100.4946.69.5

Repro Windows Versions

Windows 11 25H2 26200.6901

3rd party tweak software installed

No 3d party apps installed.

Describe the bug

  1. Installed latest Windows update.
  2. Installed latest Windows Patcher version.
  3. When Windows 10 taskbar style is chosen in Windows Patcher settings, taskbar icons keep frequently flashing/blinking/refreshing. Top taksbar position is doing that more frequently than bottom.
  4. When Windows 11 taskbar style is chosen in the Patcher settings, taskbar icons work fine.
  5. When Windows Patcher is uninstalled taskbar icons also work fine.
  6. Resetting File Explorer or rebooting Windows 11 doesn't help fix the issue.

Expected outcome

Taskbar icons shouldn't flash/blink/refresh when Windows 10 taskbar style in Windows Patcher settings.

Actual outcome

When Windows 10 taskbar style is chosen in Windows Patcher settings, taskbar icons keep frequently flashing/blinking/refreshing. Top taksbar position is doing that more frequently than bottom.

does this happen if the taskbar is on the sides or bottom?

I've just checked, it happens on all sides. The top one seems to be blinking more often though.

Some additional information (I am experiencing the same issue):

Only the icons on the main display blink, no matter if the display has focus or not.

The issue also occurs on Windows 11 Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100

Scratch the "main display" part, I think I am now seeing the icons on my left monitor blink as well.

Please run winver to get the windows build number. As that indicates what windows updates you have installed. System Information, the command msinfo32, does not show the full value.

Same device, different user profile, same configuration (just checked and adjusted). The blinking does not occur on my second profile. Are there any logs or something I can give you to help with this issue?

Check what happens when using the console in explorer patcher. Open up the properties application for explorer patcher, go to advanced, and click on enable console. Copy and paste the results here.

Do you have a custom scale and layout size? Open up settings, and go to System -> Display. Is it set to 100%? If not, set it to 100% and reboot.

Blinking has stopped after the latest ExplorerPatcher update.
