[24H2] Windows notification title problem

Open Moore0421 opened this issue 1 year ago • 22 comments

Hello, when I use ExplorerPatcher's taskbar in Windows Canary version 27686.1000, the Windows notification title becomes Microsoft.Explorer.Notification.{xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx}. This problem will not occur if I restore it to the original Windows 11 style. I don't think anyone has raised this issue. Is this problem caused by my Windows version being too high? Or has this bug always existed? image

One more thing to add, it seems that this problem only occurs with third-party applications, and Windows UWP applications are normal. My ExplorerPatcher version 22621.3880.66.4

Canary builds are not supported because the code is not final and can change with each new release.

I know that. I just want to try out this software. Even in the Canary version, most of the functions of the start menu and taskbar work well, except for the notification title. However, it doesn't affect my use.

Whatever you find is not working will not be fixed because you are running a canary build of windows. So it is pointless to file this.

@pyrates999 You can't say that anymore. 24H2 will be distributed into the masses soon.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think this is a problem that only occurs in the canary version. I also encountered the same notification title problem when using it on Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 (Windows version 24H2 26100.1), even though the image I installed was a version modified by others.

26100 is 24h2, while 27686 is considered a canary version. I thought we don't support canary versions because the underlying code can change.

But since Moore0421 said it also happens on 26100, then I wouldn't have responded the way I did.

Hello, I don't understand what the topic or behavior/issue/bug is about, just mentioning here that I see the same program behavior on "Windows 11 Pro 24H2 26100.1586" https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/issues/3605

"Microsoft.Explorer.Notification.{9A9CA30F-...}"

microsoft_explorer_notification

One more thing to add, it seems that this problem only occurs with third-party applications, and Windows UWP applications are normal. My ExplorerPatcher version 22621.3880.66.4

As seen in my screenshot, when I click the three dots (setting to disable notification from program x, going to notification settings), this only shows for "Microsoft.Explorer.Notification.{9A9CA30F-033A-044F-A3DA-00086A6B17C2}". Does not show for the Kasperky program, Proton or Explorer. The image files stored in "AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ActionCenterCache".

I have the same problem. I'm using Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.3775. I had the same problem with previous versions. No update available for Windows 11 and ExplorerPatcher. Example: I've received a notification for Java Update and the title was "Microsoft.Explorer.Notification.{5FD706BA.5FE2.1B2B.965F.FFB7E42D3476}

are you using the windows 11 taskbar or the windows 10 (ExplorerPatcher) taskbar?

pyrates999 avatar Apr 27 '25 12:04 pyrates999

Windows 10 (ExlorerPatcher), since it's the only setting that permits to move the bar on the left or on the right.

GiacomoCocchella avatar Apr 27 '25 15:04 GiacomoCocchella

let's try this: if you enabled the option register as shell extension, disable it by opening up the EP properties application, go to File Explorer, and untick Register as shell extension.

Here's why: https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/wiki/Using-ExplorerPatcher-as-shell-extension

First of all thank you for trying to support me, pyrates999.

Option "Register as shell extension" is already disabled.

Any update? facing same issue

Please post windows version and build. You can find this by running winver. Please include if you are running x86-64 or Arm. And what language your windows is in. Please post explorer patcher version, by running EP properties application and click on About on the left side.

Same problem here. Winver 24H2 build 26100.4349. 64 bit OS on Intel Core Ultra 7. Windows language is italian. Explorer Patcher 22631.5335.68.2

I think it's not a problem directy related to OS and/or Explorer Patcher versions because I have the problem from previous versions.

according to this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-notifications-showing-wrong-names/3bc1dca4-413e-4548-aeda-2ca85d0294d6

This says to turn off all notifications and then turn them back on. Then it should not show the application name/id value.

pyrates999 avatar Jun 25 '25 12:06 pyrates999

Tried but it doesn't work.

GiacomoCocchella avatar Jun 26 '25 06:06 GiacomoCocchella

Still no update to this issue? I forcely updated to 24H2 by Windows update and the problem still exists in my computer.
I had to use the Windows 11 style until the problem fix.
One year later the problem still exists.Maybe it's very hard to fix or something.

24H2 26100.4652 and the problem is still there.

Not sure if this helps, while it doesn't happen with all notifcations I can still reproduce it with AutoHotkey's TrayTip specifically.

When using Windows 10 taskbar:

When using Windows 11 taskbar:

Code used:

#Requires AutoHotkey v2.0

TrayTip "Testing the title of the notification","Notification test",""
Sleep 5000
ExitApp

Windows version: 24H2 26100.7171
