Does not maintain open folder state after system restart

Open swexpert opened this issue 1 year ago • 7 comments

Hello, Not sure if this has been reported earlier as I could not find it. Please excuse if it has been.

When using EP, the windows explorer setting Restore previous folders is not honored. If we have 5 folders open, they are closed the next time windows restarts. expected behaviour is that the open "Folder Windows" should remain open as with non-patched versions.

It was not possible to test this as I did not have another Win11 system but some someone should be able to reproduce it.

The setting is at: File Explorer->Options->View->Restore previous folder windows at login.

This needs to be fixed. Lazy people like me have 15-20 folders open at a time on a daily basis :D.

Thanks Inderjeet

Please post windows version and build. You can find this by running winver. Please post explorer patcher version.

Please include what settings you changed in explorer patcher properties application. These should be screen shots.

Please include any other software you have installed that modifies the UI of windows.

Window Switcher: Windows 11 Default.

No other 3rd party software used to modify the UI of Windows except Windows in-built Customization (Theme/Background/Color etc).

Thanks! Inderjeet

Please include the section on the left side in all your screen shots. There should be a total of 10 screen shots from the EP properties application.

Is it also happening after uninstalling EP...Check once. If it, then this is a system issue. Not facing this on mine.

Hi, Thank you both for the follow up. It indeed looks like a Windows issue and apparently many people suffer from it. When I Googled before posting this issue, there wasn't much info and on a colleague's system it was working (no EP installed). So I presumed it to be an EP issue. But today after reading your comments, I searched for the exact title of the folder setting and it yielded a lot of results! I've already tried 3 solutions mentioned on two of the pages (involving registry editing) but same result in my case.

Let me dig this further on a VM instead of my work system. That way, fiddling will be easier and risk free. This will need some time so please give me a day or two. I will post if the issue shows up after installed EP or if in default Windows install only, if at all. We'll be able to close this request then.

By the way, while uninstalling EP from within the properties page, it threw up a message about missing ep-setup.exe from C:\Program Files\ExplorePatcher folder. I copied it from the downloads folder and then it uninstalled.

Thank you both for your time and effort.

Regards, Inderjeet
