Please post windows version and build. You can find this by running winver. Please post explorer patcher version.

Please include what settings you changed in explorer patcher properties application.

Windows version - 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2215) Explorer patcher - 22621.1992.56.3 Only settings changed is to make the task bar left side of monitor this is all

Hexagram6716 avatar Sep 05 '23 08:09 Hexagram6716

That is a preview update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/august-22-2023-kb5029351-os-build-22621-2215-preview-9af25662-083a-43f5-b3a7-975fe25cc692

Uninstall it if you want to use explorer patcher and don't install preview updates in the future: https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/wiki/Symbols

In the settings app, untick "Get the latest updates as soon as available" so that preview updates are not automatically installed.

All preview updates are then shown as download and install and are never automatically installed if you have the above unticked.

Preview updates are also not fully tested by Microsoft and thus could have bugs.

Preview updates are not supported by EP.

I downgraded and its still sometimes a problem

Set the taskbar back to the bottom and see if this still occurs.

Can't reproduce this issue. Tried Cyberpunk 2077, Genshin Impact, LEGO Batman 2, and I can move my windows fine. Put my taskbar onto the left side as well, and no issues.

Latest locally built EP, should conform to the latest prerelease at the time of writing. Windows 11 22621.3007.

Does it have to be an Unreal Engine game?

I can reproduce on my machine with two screens of different resolutions and vertical taskbars on right and left.sides

After exiting fullscreen, windows think that maximized area is a strip on the top

Licho1 avatar Feb 17 '24 08:02 Licho1

Reproduced.with alpha centauri GOG game and immersed VR remote access

Licho1 avatar Feb 17 '24 08:02 Licho1

can you show a screen shot?

pyrates999 avatar Feb 17 '24 09:02 pyrates999

Sure. Basically it happens after game that uses fullscreen and changes resolution to lower resolution exits. After it exits, primary screen has "maximized window" area in top section - chrome is "maximized":

This is screenshot of just the primary screen:

(note primary taskbar is on secondary screen)

So two anomalies:

  1. maximized area is quite narrow looks basically like a difference between first and second screen vertical size?
  2. area is "behind" taskbar, taskbar obscures all windows

Running ep_setup.exe at this state fixes it

Licho1 avatar Feb 19 '24 09:02 Licho1

Can you uninstall EP and see if it still happens?

pyrates999 avatar Feb 19 '24 09:02 pyrates999

Tested it, it does not happen without EP -> caused by EP

Licho1 avatar Feb 19 '24 14:02 Licho1

Check what happens when using the console in explorer patcher. Open up the properties application for explorer patcher, go to advanced, and click on enable console. Copy and paste the results here.

pyrates999 avatar Feb 19 '24 15:02 pyrates999

image Nothing odd. It feels like some logic bug.

Licho1 avatar Feb 19 '24 23:02 Licho1

can you restart explorer.exe, run one of the games where it happens, exit, and then see if it still happens?

pyrates999 avatar Feb 20 '24 04:02 pyrates999

After restarting explorer.exe the bug no longer occurs. Now I am confused.

Licho1 avatar Feb 21 '24 09:02 Licho1

Thanks. If this happens again, please post it here.
