Disable notifications

Open snyholm opened this issue 8 years ago • 8 comments

I believe that most people are not interested in the Vaadin Notifications (sorry to be realistic here) so I would suggest that you implement a "Disable Vaadin Notifications" button/checkbox in the first Notification shown by the plugin. This would allow for a better user experience and less of a "spammy" feeling you get from having to go into the preferences to turn them off. IF you can even figure it out without having to google for it.

There is an option in Preferences -> Vaadin -> Vaadin Notification Center -> Enable

@vaadin @samie The notifications dialog definitely needs some improvement. The notification overlay can not be closed in many cases once you clicked at some notification detail and is missing some easy "disable notifications" feature directly available from the notification popup.

It had a major update a while ago already. Which version are you using at the moment? The disable feature is available through Vaadin preferences.

am using 4.0.0 final in Eclipse Mars 2. Yes, exactly, to disable the vaadin notifications, one has to open Windows->Preferences->Vaadin-> Vaadin Notification Center in Eclipse. The problem is: these notifications pop up out of nowhere. I first didn't have a clue which application was showing these notifications and wasn't able to see anything uncommon in task explorer. I had to close all kind of applications and processes to find out that it was shown by the eclipse app. Actually I had to do this twice because the first time I tried this, the notifications popup vanished because of some timeout I guess. I hope you now understand that not having any info screen or checkbox or option to disable these notifications directly on that notification popup is a really bad implementation.

I have this issue as well

Note: when I check, Window -> Preferences contains no reference to Vaadin whatsoever. image

currently using version Neon.3 (4.6.3)

in my opinion this feature should be automatically disabled, with manually editing preference files required for it to become enabled. it serves no unique purpose (I mean no offence by that)

once open it can be closed by clicking one notification, and hitting escape (ESC). but that doesn't prevent it from appearing again later.

personally I have no use for this feature, and wish to disable it forever.

this is especially annoying, as it opens again for each eclipse project one is running. The notification center really should be disabled by default or improved / fixed to be usable.

Still no solution for this? Vaadin isn't listed under Preferences.

I'm reopening this since it looks like it missing again. It was originally closed when this was first added into preferences and dialog was fixed.
