Is an email sent after an application is submitted?

After an application has been submitted, the webform says to look for an email and check the spam folder. I've checked both and confirmed the email server is functioning. Can it be confirmed that an email is sent after the application is submitted? I'm afraid I've sent my application but maybe something went wrong. Are we notified if we are not accepted? It would be great to know. Thank you for the consideration either way!
