what now? Running but never asks for fingerprint

Hi! I followed the Readme instructions and was able to enroll my right index finger. I ran sudo pam-auth-update but command was not found so I added the lines to /etc/pam.d/common-auth manually (file was previously empty). Rebooted. Neither during running sudo nor on login does the fingerprint light come on. So what do I do? systemctl status python3-validity says active (running) with only debug logs listed. I was going to try the Playground section to debug but I'm not sure how to "make sure you've disabled the dbus service shipped with this package" or know that "device is already paired."

Tips? I'm on Fedora 34 with Thinkpad t480s. Thanks!

EDIT: hmmm, seems worth trying https://gitlab.com/bingch/libfprint-tod-vfs0090...
