The UEFI Interactive Shell opens when booting Ubuntu 22.04
Describe the issue
- I downloaded this Ubuntu 22.04 ARM64 image: https://mac.getutm.app/gallery/ubuntu-20-04 (direct ISO link: https://archive.org/download/ubuntu-20.04-arm64-utm/ubuntu-20.04-arm64-utm.zip)
- Created a New Machine
- Selected the downloaded ISO file as a CD/DVD Image
- Selected ARM64 as architecture
- Set 2024 MiB for memory
- Set 5 GB for storage size
- Didn't specify any Shared Directory
- Created and launched the VM
- The UEFI Interactive Shell opens:
- I don't really know what to do with it. Searched through several similar issues and the solutions mentioned there but neither of them helped. So I can't start the install process of Ubuntu.
Configuration
- UTM Version:
4.5.4 - OS Version:
18.0 - Device Model: iPhone 15 Pro
- Is it jailbroken? — No.
- How did you install UTM? — Via AltStore PAL.
Debug log debug.log
Upload VM config.plist.zip
Did you remember to tell UTM to boot from disk ?
@a-ramses Is it enough if the CD/DVD USB Drive is the first in the Drives list?
i have the same issue with windows 7
UPDATE: i solved this by disabling UEFI boot in the settings of the VM
That doesn't work for me. If I disable UEFI Boot it gets stuck at Guest has not initialized the display (yet):
I noticed this on any machine I attempted to create on my M3. The only workaround I discovered was to disable UEFI. I have not been able to create any machine with UEFI on this machine.

Neither did that work for me. :(
If you didn't have a virtual machine without UEFI already, you might now be experiencing #6639.

@ITmaze I get no The file couldn't be opened error message when opening the VM.
So you can edit the preferences and save them and disable UEFI?
Which OS are you running UTM on?

Hmm, just spotted that you're running iOS, I'm using MacOS. UEFI does not appear to work on either.
We're both using UTM 4.5.4
I am running into same issue "Guest has not initialized the display (yet)"
