Screen Sharing fails on Headless VM

Open kevingrabher opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

Describe the issue
When the VM is "headless" (Displays removed in settings) the VM cannot be accessed via Screen Sharing. I can ping the machine, but connecting via vnc loads forever and eventually fails. VM Crashlog.txt

Tested Guests: Monterey 12.6 and Ventura 13.0.1

Configuration

  • UTM Version: 4.0.9
  • macOS Version: 13.1 (Host)
  • Mac Chip (Intel, M1, ...): M1 Pro

Also reproduced on an M1 Mac Mini Host macOS 12.5.1 Guest macOS 12.6

@kevingrabher The crash log you attached is a crash of WindowServer in the VM, right?

@conath Yes I receive the crashlog after force powering off the machine and then rebooting it with a display "attached".

I have the same issue. I can't VNC into a headless macOS VM

Any way to run a headless macOS guest in late 2024? I am very keen on being able to do this!

Running into the same problem virtualizing Windows 11, I have RDP setup and I'm able to RDP into it from the macOS Windows App no problem with display connected, but if I disconnect the display, RDP fails to connect, and the VM appears to not boot. Anyone find a solution to this yet?
