Weird issue: getting blocked only when accessing domain sub directories

If I create my fireprox proxy directly to www.example.com/subdirectory the request goes through. If I set the proxy to www.example.com and try to access .../fireprox/subdirectory I get 403: Forbidden. Any Idea how to debug or why is it?
