Bridge Discord channel to Matrix or create new room in Matrix?

I attempted to create a Discord account because I'm interested in contributing to this project, but I was prevented from creating an account because I don't own a non-VoIP phone number (for privacy reasons), so I did not pass the verification step. I would really appreciate it if Matrix were used instead of Discord or if the Discord channel were bridged with Matrix so that folks don't have to compromise their privacy to contribute to this project.

I would also like to see something besides Discord as a choice. Discord is not a good fit for a free software project.
