Could there be an option for entering romanized text other than copy-paste? It might be useful for authors at the moment

There is an option, but it's a bit complex: you need to click on the keyboard icon, disable the mapping and save. When you're finished, if you want to re-enable the mapping, you need to click on the keyboard icon again, and re-enable. It might be useful to make this more accessible, but it depends on the more global question of how to deal with authors.
