Creating new DM fails at button stage in DMs view

This occurred when walking a friend through L2 planet setup with local Port on a MacBook Pro, in Chrome.

When he navigated to the DMs view, searched for a pat-p, selected that pat-p, and pressed the 'Create' button, nothing happened. This occurred 3 times in a row, including after browser refresh. He was able to successfully DM all 3 users by instead navigating to their profile pages in Leap and selecting the Message option there. The DMs successfully went through and were responded to.
