"x New Messages Since Yesterday" returns to the wrong point in chat

When navigating anew to a chat with new messages, and clicking on the "x New Messages since Y" popup, the user is sent to a point well before the unread messages in the intervening interval actually began.

Also (maybe related?) even when one is actively in the chat, the new message popups continue to read "since Yesterday" even though obviously they occurred in the past few minutes.

System: Chrome on MacBook Pro.

I think this is to do with embedded content (external images, graph references) loading after clicking the "x new messages" popup? I've noticed the same thing happening unless I let the chat load and then settle before clicking the popup.
