POSTing attachments directly to the /messages endpoint is basically "deprecated." the real client makes a POST for each attachment and a PUT to some google cloud endpoint. when all PUTs are completed then a POST /messages is fired off. this is required to support the fact attachments go up to 500MB now though discord uses it for all attachments regardless of size
