I have an unused private server with precisely one channel, and it's always "unread", with the white rectangle on the left. It also happens to other bigger public servers.
This works, but the code itself might or might not be good enough for you the way I implemented it. It at least works on my 32-bit big-endian PowerBook G4......
Please make the user data be stored in the same folder as the program, instead of the local appdata Windows folder `%localappdata%\Temp\abaddon-cache`. Or at least an option for the user...
