Disable middle button

Open johnsonfx opened this issue 8 years ago • 4 comments

Hey, thanks for this it has worked great for me. Is there a way to modify the code to disable the middle button? I use the trackpoint for scrolling and the middle button causes it to randomly open links.

Thank you!

It is not possible from this program.

I am using 'SteerMouse 5' to do this, along with adjusting speed curve, scroll direction and etc.

Yeah, SteerMouse actually solved the problem for me. By setting the Middle Button action to "No action", all programs that do not offer a customization on middle clicks work well. I've googled a lot and this is the cheapest way ($19.9) and you have to give up mere middle clicks if you really need it sometime.

Hi, forgive me for my ignorance here, but I also am trying to solve the issue that @johnsonfx had. I recently bought a thinkpad bluetooth keyboard so i could use the trackpoint to move the cursor and scroll without moving my hands. To scroll, I must press down and hold down the middle button while I move the trackpoint. However, on programs like Chrome, if I click down on the middle button over a link, the link opens up in a new tab. Does your program help alleviate this problem? And if so, how do I install and run your program. Sorry, I'm obviously pretty clueless here.

@christophercheng A quick answer is, refering to Steer Mouse 5 and setting it as the picture I post above, the software will indeed solve your problem. And you also need to use tpkb, too.

The problem is, I guess, the OS system sends an event of middle button click followed by a scoring event to the software you're using, which doesn't happen on Windows because of the lenovo windows driver.

By default, Chome will use middle button to open links in a new tab, which is convenient if you are using a traditional mouse. You should disable the middle button behavior in the preferences of Chrome for your needs. If you also use Firefox, iTerm2 or other apps, you should do this in their very setting.

In my case, I don't use a mouse and do not need any middle button function. Furthermore, I don't figure out how to disable middle button on Firefox. Eventually I choose to disable the function system-wide using SteerMouse. Till this end, I use tpkb to lock the Fn keys and SteerMouse to disable middle button. They are both necessary and working perfectly now.
